It made me feel like everything made perfect sense. But I think that’s the point. If you wanna feel, this is your book If you wanna cry, just read this. Too many of my readers have a little bit of Lia or Cassie festering in them; that sense that they will only be valued according to the number that shows up on the scale. Eating disorders are mental illnesses that need to be taken seriously and treated by professionals. It helped me get rid of the snakes wintergir,s my head and love my body.

Well, first of all, let me start this review with saying THIS is the book about eating disorders you want to read. Hearing from readers who were struggling with eating disorders made me want to write about their battle. The heroine either needs to be likeable, hateable, or at the very least, needs to make me laugh. I struggled for a bit trying to understand the larger story of eating disorders. Soon, Cassie’s ghost starts haunting Lia, making her feel guilty for not picking up the phone that night and not being there for her ex-best friend the night she died.
I also believe there are aspects of American life that fosters the development of eating disorders. The experts said some readers might use the book to help them in their quest to lose weight.
If anything give this one a try just to get a look into a world that isn’t easy to understand. She blames them for her illness and doesn’t ever seem to take responsibility for it on herself. Jul 08, Kyla rated it liked it.
It is real and for that reason, it has become a positive tool, something helps people reach for help and health. It just isn’t enough. But they all said that should not stop me. Lia, who has a history of anorexia, falls into a downward spiral of self-harm and calorie counting.

Some people say that Wintergirls is a hard book. I just personally prefer novels more focused in the present, and I felt the first half of the book relied very heavily on flashbacks I wasn’t too keen on reading. But the truth of her story, the moral of it, is such an urgent and imparting one.

A stereotype that is commonly true of anorectics, though, is that they are perfectionists, and many are overachievers. Speak is one of my all time favorite novels, so to say I was excited to read Wintergirls was an understatement.
